Update: Tuesday 10/13/2015
Today has been and will continue to be an especially critical day. She had the ECMO disconnected about 2 hours ago and they are watching all her numbers to be sure she can handle it. So far so good! They left the cannulas in her neck, for now, in case she needs the ECMO back. If she is still doing good later tonight, then the surgeon will come remove it.
Her numbers on her breathing are looking some better, but the ventilator is still doing quite a bit of work. She will most likely still be on it for a few more days while her lungs continue to heal. When they feel like her lungs are back to functioning properly and they take her off the vent, then it will be time to try and wake her up. We are so looking forward to that day!
Although, she is still heavily sedated to keep her from moving much, there are still a lot of positive things happening with her movements. She continues to wiggle around a little (fingers, toes, arms, and legs). She has made some facial movements. When the nurse was rubbing some antiseptic in her mouth earlier she tried to suck on it (like her pacifier).
The rest of the night will be very critical with all these changes going on. Please continue to Pray!
God is Good, All the Time!
Thank You All So Much for your Prayers for Ellie!
