We live in a culture much like other cultures in generations before us. People desire greatness, but avoid responsibility. Yet, we find several unavoidable applications to this idea of responsibility. Sir Winston Churchill said, “The price of greatness is responsibility.”
Responsibility involves duty over someone or something.
Responsibility brings accountability.
Responsibility indicates an obligation.
Responsibility brings an opportunity to act independently and make decisions.
Responsibility determines greatness.
When leaders are responsible, and willing to take responsibility, it inspires others to follow.
Responsibility is the price to be paid. Greatness is the prize.
One of the great challenges for leaders in any organization, yet one most needed, is the ability to work well with others.
Amy Poehler says, “As you navigate through the rest of your life, be open to collaboration. Other people and other people’s ideas are often better than your own. Find a group of people who challenge and inspire you, spend a lot of time with them, and it will change your life.”
Anytime a leader begins to think it is quicker and easier to do the job themselves, they lose focus on one of the greatest opportunities in the arena of leadership.
When a leader feels threatened by those who think outside the box or by colleagues who are talented-gifted and demonstrate ability, they cannot achieve genuine success in leadership.
Poehler’s thought is exactly right. From a leadership perspective, life changes in proportion to our willingness to be open to work with others, to learn from their ideas, to be challenged and inspired.
If we really want to multiply the strength of the church, we need to learn the true art of teamwork.

Few suggestions are more exciting than the opportunity to sit around a table with others and collaborate ideas. Discussing and planning every area of life, personally and professionally, serves to improve our leadership.
The beauty of collaborating with others is the inspiration of gleaning from the wisdom and experience of those closest to our lives. Here we find guidance from others who care most for us. Their desire is to see us succeed in life.
Spiritually, few opportunities are more important than times of collaboration where we examine ways to strengthen the church and lead others to a greater hope.
The change in life that makes the greatest difference in who we are and what we do is born from the benefits of what is learned in community.
Defining leadership becomes more complex by the day. Books, blogs, and dictionaries are constantly modifying ways to think about leadership.
Examining definitions over the past 100 years indicates the same challenges. Each decade introduced new political figures and challenges to the country that influenced the way leadership was defined.
One consistent fact about leadership, regardless of the time, country, or political power, is the influence leaders have through inspiring others to act in achieving a goal.
Considering our present culture, we understand that leaders who possess the ability to urge someone to feel or do something are said to inspire others. On one side of the argument, there are those who believe this is an ability leaders are born with, but on the other side, this ability is something a leader can learn.
Either way, creating ownership among the team, generating enthusiasm, visualizing the future, and expressing appreciation elevates the work of others, inspiring them to act.
When leaders exercise this ability, there is a uniting force that keeps others focused on the goal before them with an implementation of the plans necessary to reach the goal.
